About OPAM (Oita Prefectural Art Museum}

■ Director's Message

Oita Prefecture is warm, scenic and rich in nature. Oita Prefecture has a warm, scenic, and rich natural environment, and has been fusing traditions and customs while accepting and absorbing different cultures from Asia and the West.
A "Museum of Encounters and the Five Senses" was created in the center of Oita City, named after Oita's unique cultural climate.
Designed by world-renowned architect Shigeru Ban （. The highly transparent, flexible, changeable and exhilarating space is truly a "museum that constantly changes and grows.
While approaching the heritage of art from all over the world and Japan, we will introduce and nurture the artists and traditional culture that Oita is proud of, and create a meeting place between different kinds of things, global and local, traditional and modern, contemporary.
We will appeal to the five senses through the expansion and boundless vitality of art, through the intermingling of different genres, and also through the imagination of nature and literacy rooted in our bodies and lives.
Together with you, we will create a completely new and unique artistic experience and creative space for the 21st century, "Oita World Centrism".

A museum that appeals to the senses and creativity through various perspectives and senses, and aims to be a museum that visitors can enjoy with all five senses.

An art museum "with new discoveries and stimulation through encounters"
We aim to create an art museum where visitors can make new discoveries and receive stimulation through special exhibitions based on various "encounter" themes such as Oita and the world, classic and contemporary, art and music.

An art museum that "feels like your living room"
Museums are often associated with a high degree of intimidation, but we aim to create an art museum that visitors can casually visit and feel like they are in their own living rooms.

An art museum that "grows with the people of the prefecture"
We aim to be an art museum that grows with the people of the prefecture of all ages, from children to the elderly, the next generation of leaders.　




Requests for Use

・ Please refrain from bringing pets to the museum. （ Excluding assistance dogs under the Assistance Dogs for the Disabled Act ）
・ Rain umbrellas and parasols are not allowed inside the museum. Please use the umbrella stand.
・ Please leave large items in the lockers.
・ Please refrain from eating and drinking except in designated areas.
・ Smoking is prohibited inside the building. Please smoke in designated areas.
・ There are no trash cans in the building. Please take your garbage home with you.
・ If you need a wheelchair or a baby carriage, please come to the Information Desk on the 1st floor.
・ Please do not touch the exhibited works and display cases.
・ Please refrain from taking photographs with cameras, videos, cell phones, etc. in the exhibition rooms unless otherwise indicated.
・ Please use only pencils in the exhibition rooms.
・ Please refrain from talking on cell phones and other such devices in the exhibition rooms.
・ Please refrain from bringing dangerous items into the exhibition rooms.
・ Surveillance cameras are installed for security purposes.
・ Please follow the instructions of the staff.
